Topic 3 - change one important thing - Phan Ngoc

Begging has become one of the most serious problems that Hanoi, my
hometown, is having for years now. So if I had a chance to change one
thing here, I would change the situation of begging.  There are two
main reasons for my choice as follows.
First and foremost, begging has a bad influence on my hometown’s
tourism. The fact is that Hanoi is an ideal place to travel with a lot
of beauty spots such as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, ancient streets in
central Hanoi, One Polar pagoda, etc. Since there are many travelers
in these places, most of beggars gather here to beg. Obviously, this
situation affects badly the beauty of the city because of its
appearance and its essence as well. More seriously, many beggars
bother travelers by begging persistently until I achieve money. This
displeasure makes foreigners not only have a bad impression on Hanoi’s
image but also never want to travel here again. Because Hanoi is the
capital of Vietnam, it is the representative of the country. As the
result, the image of the whole country is ruined as well, which
considerably reduces Vietnam’s profits from tourism.
Second, more and more crimes are created through begging. Nowadays,
many begging organizations have been founded. They train work-shy
people how to pretend to be ill or disabled to arouse other people’s
compassion. By that way, they cheat to earn money. Moreover, beggars
have many advantages to take to rob, steal and defraud other people,
especially travelers with many more cunning tricks. Therefore, begging
may bring about social evils that can do harm to many people.
To sum up, evil influence to tourism and crimes making are reasons why
I want to change my hometown’s begging situation. As the government is
trying its best to avoid this, I believe that the situation will be
gradually improved and more jobs will be created for beggars to have
more chances to contribute to our society.
