In the sets of material, both the reading and lecture focus on cause of crime. However, they direct on different ways. The reading focus on poverty, race, size of population and its composition, while the professor in the listening casts doubt on that arguments.

At the first point, both the reading and listening showed effects of community on increasing crime. The reading passage believed that poverty is the primary cause, people who live in such a condition like that would commit crime because of hunger and bad living conditions. However, the lecture disagree with the suggestion, the professor said that poverty is not essential cause. He showed an example about United State, according this, a community with high level life condition as US still have high rate of crime.

The second point is about race. The reading suggested that blacks community have higher crime rate than whites do. On the other hand, the professor said that family environment related to crime. Whites have background of home condition better than blacks have, so rate of crime in white community is fewer.

At the final point, both reading and listening contend size of population and its compositions connect to crime rates. The reading suggested that communities with bigger population is also equal to be more crimes in it, especially, with large number of men and young people. In contrast with reading, the lecture denies this and mentions again the effects of family, broken families led the teenagers and twenties whom did not be loved and cared into crime society.
